IDF Kills Hamas Propaganda Commander Anas Hamdan in Northern Khan Yunis
Anas Mahmoud Hamdan, 34, a senior Hamas military figure and propaganda commander of the Khan Yunis Brigade, was killed on Thursday in an airstrike targeting a jeep in northern Khan Yunis. Hamdan was known for leading the release ceremony of Israeli hostages Ofer Calderon and Yarden Bibas. According to the IDF and Shin Bet, he was deeply involved in holding hostages, including Avraham Mengistu, and commanded a Hamas platoon. He was also a close aide to senior military leaders Mohammed Deif and Rafa Salama.
The Israeli military and security services stated that Hamdan had been responsible for documenting hostages during their release ceremonies and had been involved in training militants and planning terrorist attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. His elimination was described as a significant moral closure due to his role in planning and securing Hamas leaders responsible for the October 7 massacre.
The IDF emphasized that its Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area under existing agreements and will continue operations to neutralize immediate threats. Hamdan’s death is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Hamas’s military capabilities in Gaza amid heightened conflict.
