Bordeaux Relegated to Sixth Division Amid Financial Collapse

Bordeaux, a historic French football club that has won six Ligue 1 titles, has been officially relegated to the sixth tier of French football due to overwhelming financial difficulties. The French Football Federation's appeals committee rejected Bordeaux's appeal, confirming their drop to the amateur regional league. Efforts by investment fund Sparta Capital to rescue the club in 2026 by raising 10 million euros failed, and attempts to find a new investor were unsuccessful. If liquidation occurs, the club's association will be responsible for debts including 4.5 million euros owed for foreign player transfers and 500,000 euros in solidarity payments.
