IDF Kills Hamas Terrorist Involved in Kidnapping of Colonel Asaf Hamami and Two Soldiers
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted strike on Tuesday in southern Gaza Strip, killing Hassam Shaafi, a militant from the Eastern Khan Yunis Battalion of Hamas' military wing. Shaafi was involved in the October 7 massacre when he raided Kibbutz Nir Oz and participated in the kidnapping of Colonel Asaf Hamami, Staff Sergeant Tomer Ahimas, and Corporal Kiril Brodsky, all of whom were killed in the ensuing battle at the kibbutz.
The elimination of Shaafi marks a significant closure in the case and was made possible through intelligence gathering and fire control coordination by the Gaza Division's Fire Center (143). Colonel Hamami served as the commander of the Southern Brigade under this division, with Ahimas and Brodsky as fighters in his command post. Throughout the war and in recent times, Shaafi had been advancing terror operations and posed a continuous threat to Israeli forces operating in the Gaza Strip.
