Hapoel Tel Aviv Nears Roster Completion as Motley and Anis Face Possible Departures
Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball is close to finalizing its roster for the upcoming season. The club is expected to officially sign Tomas Satoransky to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million and add another foreign guard alongside Satoransky and Vasa Micic to complete its foreign player quota.
Jonathan Motley, who reached an agreement with club owner Ofer Yanai last season, is likely to leave the team. Motley is currently in talks with Red Star Belgrade, which is expected to cover most of his salary, estimated at over $2 million. His departure follows the arrival of Zack Leday, with the coaching staff disappointed by Motley's contributions in recent months.
Tyler Anis is another player who may exit. Although Yanai exercised the option on the injured player, who is expected to return only by December after recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, the club is considering transferring him to other teams in Europe or Israel once his rehabilitation is complete.
Regarding Tamir Blatt, Hapoel Tel Aviv has engaged in discussions with him and his representatives. About ten days ago, Blatt reached a preliminary agreement with Yanai on a three-year contract worth $1.7 million. While the coaching staff is not fully satisfied with this move, the club offered Blatt a role that, due to upcoming player eligibility changes, would initially exclude him from EuroLeague play and limit him to being the fourth point guard in rotation. However, his role in the domestic league is expected to be significant. It remains unclear if Blatt will accept this offer or seek opportunities with other European teams.
