Senior IDF Officer and Secretary Dispute Accounts in Abuse of Authority Investigation
A senior IDF officer, Brigadier General Israel Shomer, is under investigation for alleged abuse of authority and maintaining a relationship with a former secretary in his office. The probe has revealed conflicting testimonies between Shomer and the female soldier involved, who recently changed her version of events. Shomer has presented evidence contradicting her claims.
The investigation began last month after a soldier in Shomer's office witnessed an inappropriate encounter between him and the former secretary during service hours and reported it. Following the report, Shomer was summoned for questioning by the military police and immediately resigned from his military position.
The former secretary confirmed the existence of a consensual relationship with Shomer. Due to Shomer's high-ranking position as head of the Operations Division and the timing amid a senior appointments cycle, the case was kept highly confidential. Shomer was expected to be replaced by Brigadier General Barak Hiram and was also considered a candidate for the military secretary to the Defense Minister.
Sources familiar with the matter noted that Shomer's candidacy for the senior post heightened the sensitivity of the case and delayed key defense appointments. The investigation continues as the conflicting accounts are examined.
