IDF Battalion Commander Investigated for Sexual Harassment of Female Officer Amid Allegations of Evidence Tampering

An IDF combat battalion commander is under investigation by the military police for allegedly sexually harassing a female officer under his command. The accusations include obsessive sexual conversations and inappropriate physical contact. The female officer filed a complaint with the military police, and following the commander's return from overseas leave, he was summoned for questioning. Additional soldiers from the unit have also been called to provide testimony.

A serious aspect of the case involves the conduct of a superior officer responsible for handling sexual harassment complaints. During a meeting, this superior allegedly pressured the female officer to delete messages exchanged with the commander and attempted to dissuade her from filing a formal complaint, citing the commander's family situation. The officer complied with deleting the messages in the superior's presence but had previously backed up the conversations. This has raised suspicions of attempted evidence destruction.

The female officer reportedly confided in several colleagues about the harassment, and soldiers claim that senior commanders in the brigade were aware of the allegations. Despite this, a formal farewell ceremony honoring the commander was held at the end of his tenure, with senior officers praising him. It remains unclear what actions, if any, were taken by the leadership in response to the complaints.

Additionally, there are allegations involving another female soldier serving near the commander, which are currently under investigation. The IDF stated that the military police investigation is ongoing and that findings will be forwarded to the military prosecution. The IDF emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward sexual offenses and noted that support units are available to all victims.
