Northern Israel Father Detained After Teaching Daughter to Drive Without License in Carmiel
A northern Israel father, an electrical and electronics engineer, attempted to ease his 16-year-old daughter's fear of driving by giving her an informal driving lesson in Carmiel. The incident occurred last weekend when Northern District police officers noticed a vehicle moving suspiciously slowly in a local parking lot. Upon approaching, they found the young girl behind the wheel, guided by her father who was instructing her with hand signals.
The father explained to the officers that his daughter was about to begin her theoretical driving studies and he wanted to help her gain practical experience before starting official lessons or passing the theory test. Despite his explanation, the police emphasized that driving without a valid license is a serious offense carrying significant safety risks, even in a closed parking area.
As a result, the police immediately impounded the family car, which was administratively seized for 30 days, imposing substantial financial costs on the family. Both the father and daughter were summoned for a formal hearing and investigation by the Northern District police. They now face expedited legal proceedings and are expected to be prosecuted in traffic court.
The Israeli police reiterated the dangers of unlicensed driving, especially by minors unfamiliar with traffic laws and safety rules, highlighting the threat it poses to all road users. Authorities pledged to continue rigorous enforcement to deter traffic violations and reduce road accidents caused by reckless behavior.
