Anti-Semitic Attack on New York Subway: Passenger Said ‘Jews Eat Children’ and Assaulted Woman
A woman named Diana Smith incited against Jews on the New York City subway and also attacked a Jewish passenger. This was reported today, Thursday, by the New York Post.
Another Jewish passenger, who declined to give her name, said she boarded the subway when the attacker, Diana Smith, warned bystanders about “the danger posed by Jews.” Smith then suddenly turned to her and said that “Jews eat children.” Smith is accused of a series of offenses, including assault, strangulation as a hate crime, and aggravated harassment. The incident itself drew condemnations from various organizations.
The victim of the attack, described in the report as a 23-year-old Haredi woman, testified that she felt “like a rag doll” and could not defend herself. “There should have been a human barrier around me, but no one intervened until it was too late,” she said.
The victim added that she heard the suspect speaking with a couple of passengers about “the dangers of Jews stealing wealth” and said that “you can always see the reflection of a Jew.” The young Jewish woman described it this way: “She turned toward me, it seemed very focused. She stared at me, then smiled a smile I will never forget.”
“I decided at that moment that I did not want to show that I was afraid, so I stared back at her and said, ‘Do you see my reflection?’ and she replied, ‘Yes, and I can smell it on you too.’”
The victim managed to record some of the exchange on her mobile phone. The confrontation turned violent in an instant when Smith placed one hand on the victim’s throat. A pair of passersby tried to calm things down, and Smith shouted at them: “It’s okay for Jews to eat children, but I can’t strangle her.”
Seconds later, according to the young woman’s testimony, her phone was knocked to the floor and Smith was still holding her throat, kicking her and pushing her to the floor, while pulling a lock of hair from her head. As soon as the train arrived at the station, the young woman hurried out and called the police, who arrested Smith.
The victim told the New York Post that despite the concern of other subway passengers and their questions about whether she was okay, she was not okay, and that she was not in Nazi Germany. The passenger described Smith as “pure evil,” saying she was lucid enough to know she was Jewish and to attack her.
