Darline Graham Nordon Appointed to Fill Late Senator Lindsey Graham's Seat in South Carolina
Darline Graham Nordon, sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, has been appointed to serve the remainder of his term in the U.S. Senate following his sudden death last weekend. Although she has never held public office before, Nordon was closely involved in her brother's political career, participating in speeches, events, and campaigns over several decades. After the death of their parents when Lindsey was 22 and Darline was 13, he became her legal guardian and later adopted her to secure military benefits for her. Nordon recalled to NPR in 2015 how Lindsey promised to always be there for her after their father's passing.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Nordon to fill the Senate seat until January, when the term ends. She is expected to uphold the policies and positions supported by her brother. The Republican primary to select candidates for the November general election will take place next month.
