Amir Almog Sentenced to 25 Years for 2020 Murder of Partner Maya Vishnyak

The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Amir Almog to 25 years in prison for the 2020 murder of his partner, Maya Vishnyak. Almog reached a plea deal in which he admitted to murder without aggravating circumstances. He was also ordered to pay Vishnyak's family 250,000 shekels in compensation. Almog told the judges he accepted the plea agreement after consulting with his mother and defense attorney.

According to the indictment, Almog strangled Vishnyak to death in his mother's apartment on Avtalion Street in Ramat Gan. After the killing, he filmed himself singing and scattering money around her body. Almog's mother called the police after he confessed to her, but he then attacked her with a knife, causing minor injuries. Later, doubts arose about his mother's testimony, with suspicions she staged her injury.

Psychiatric evaluations determined Almog was aware of his actions and fit to stand trial, capable of controlling his behavior. Following the plea deal, Vishnyak's family stated that all attempts by Almog to claim mental illness as a defense failed, and that he will forever bear the label of murderer.
