Court Sentences Amit Almog to 25 Years for Murder of Maya Vishniak

Six years after the murder of Maya Vishniak, the Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Amit Almog to 25 years in prison and ordered him to pay 258,000 shekels in compensation to her family. The sentencing took place on Sunday following a closed-door hearing in February 2025 before Judge Gilad Neutel. The courtroom was tense as Vishniak's family confronted Almog, calling him a cold-blooded murderer.

Almog had initially denied the charges but later admitted to intentionally murdering his partner in 2020. The prosecution and defense reached a plea deal, leading the court to accept a reduced charge of basic murder instead of premeditated murder with aggravating circumstances, which carries a life sentence. Originally, Almog was accused of strangling Vishniak during an argument, photographing her body with money scattered on it, sending the images to a friend, and assaulting his mother.

After more than five years of legal proceedings, the plea agreement also dropped charges related to the attack on his mother, as it was determined that Almog acted under the influence of drugs. The court's ruling marks the conclusion of a lengthy and highly emotional case for Vishniak's family.
