Tel Aviv Court Sentences Amitt Almog to 25 Years for Ex-Girlfriend Maya Vishnyak's Murder

The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Amitt Almog, 28, to 25 years in prison for the murder of his former partner, Maya Vishnyak, 22, which occurred in May 2020. Almog was convicted following a plea agreement that downgraded the charge to basic murder. In addition to the prison sentence, Almog was ordered to pay 258,000 shekels in compensation to Vishnyak's family.

According to the original indictment, the murder took place during an argument in which Almog strangled Vishnyak to death, photographed her body, scattered banknotes over it, and sent the images to a friend. He also assaulted and injured his mother. However, the charges related to the attack on his mother were dropped after it was determined that Almog was under the influence of drugs at the time.

The plea deal was reached after more than five and a half years since the crime. The case has also seen investigative progress, with six suspects arrested in connection to a related murder investigation in the Nahalat Yitzhak neighborhood.
