EU Accuses Facebook and Instagram of Breaking Tech Laws Over Addictive Features

The European Union has accused Facebook and Instagram of violating its technology regulations by employing features designed to keep users addicted. EU regulators are focusing on mechanisms such as autoplay and infinite scrolling, which they claim encourage prolonged user engagement. As a result, the EU is demanding that Meta, the parent company of both platforms, modify these features or face potential fines. These findings emerged from an investigation under the EU's flagship Digital Services Act, which requires large online platforms to take stronger action against illegal and harmful content. Meta responded by rejecting the findings, stating that they do not accurately reflect the measures the company has implemented to protect teenagers.
