Tel Aviv University Launches Advanced Sports Science Institute to Boost Israeli Athletes

Tel Aviv University inaugurated the Sylvan Adams Institute of Sports Science on Wednesday, established with an investment of approximately 100 million shekels from businessman Sylvan Adams. The institute aims to advance Israeli sports through research, support, and training by integrating science, technology, and athletics to enhance the performance of Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

The state-of-the-art facility includes various advanced laboratories and research infrastructures, such as a climate chamber simulating precise humidity and temperature conditions from global competitions, a hypoxic hotel replicating oxygen levels and altitudes up to 5,000 meters, and sophisticated motion analysis systems. During the launch event, a strategic partnership was announced with the Olympic Committee, whereby the institute will provide scientific support and personalized training programs to select Olympic athletes.

The focus will be on optimal preparation for upcoming European and World Championships, as well as the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games. Yael Arad, Chair of the Olympic Committee, emphasized the increasing global competition and the institute’s role in strengthening Israel’s international sports standing. Sylvan Adams highlighted his vision, stating that investing in today’s science lays the foundation for tomorrow’s achievements, with a personal commitment to cycling and ambitions for a medal in Los Angeles 2028. Tel Aviv University President Professor Ariel Porat praised the institute’s contributions to health promotion, exercise physiology, and competitive sports, acknowledging Adams’ generosity as essential to its establishment.
