Masked Attacker Smashes Door at Haaretz Office Amid Rising Threats to Israeli Journalists
Haaretz newspaper released footage on Wednesday showing a masked individual throwing a stone and breaking the entrance door to its editorial office in South Tel Aviv. The video, shared on Haaretz's X page, highlights a pattern of threatening graffiti against journalists sprayed across the city over the past year.
Last Saturday, the entrance door to the News 12 building in Tel Aviv was similarly smashed by a masked person who hurled a brick at the glass door, shattering it. News 12 condemned the act, stating they were "shaken but not surprised by the violence, which again crosses a dangerous line and is not the first time." They noted that graffiti inciting violence against their journalists had appeared multiple times before.
About a month ago, hateful graffiti with threats targeting journalists Guy Peleg, Raviv Drucker, Amnon Abramovich, and media outlets Channels 11, 12, and 13 were found in the Beit Zeron neighborhood of Tel Aviv. Former military advocate Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was also targeted with graffiti calling for her demotion and death.
These incidents reflect escalating hostility and intimidation against Israeli media professionals, raising concerns about press freedom and safety in the country.
