Masked Attacker Smashes News 12 Entrance Door in Tel Aviv Amid Rising Threats to Journalists
The entrance door to the News 12 building in Tel Aviv was shattered on Saturday night by a masked individual who threw a brick at the glass door, breaking it into pieces, as captured by security cameras. News 12 expressed shock but said they were not surprised by the violence, which they described as crossing a dangerous line and not being an isolated incident. The broadcaster noted that this attack follows multiple instances of graffiti inciting violence against their journalists.
News 12 called on the Israeli government and the Communications Minister to stop inflammatory rhetoric against free media, which they say fuels such violent acts. They urged the Israel Police to act swiftly to prevent further dangerous violence and affirmed their commitment to continue their work despite the threats, incitement, and violence.
The Journalists' Union condemned the attack and demanded serious and prompt police action to hold accountable those who threaten journalists and media outlets. About a month ago, hate graffiti containing threats against journalists Guy Peleg, Raviv Drucker, Amnon Abramovich, and media outlets Channel 11, 12, and 13 was found in the Beit Zeron neighborhood of Tel Aviv. Former military prosecutor Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was also targeted with graffiti calling for her demotion and death.
Similar hate graffiti was sprayed on the Channel 13 building, including messages like "Blood of traitors is more for publication," highlighting a troubling pattern of escalating hostility toward Israeli journalists.
