22-Year-Old Jamal Samaana Dies After Police Vehicle Hits Him in Northern Israel

Jamal Samaana, a 22-year-old man from Bir al-Maksur, died overnight Tuesday in a traffic accident on Highway 77 near the Hura settlement in northern Israel. The incident occurred between the Mivtach and Zarzir interchanges. Initial investigations indicate that Samaana was involved in a traffic collision while driving toward Mivtach. After the accident, he exited his vehicle and attempted to move away from the scene by climbing over a safety barrier and jumping into the opposite traffic lane. There, he was struck by a passing police vehicle and succumbed to his injuries.

Police from the Northern District and the Traffic Department, along with road accident investigators, arrived at the scene and launched an inquiry into the circumstances of the accident. The fatality adds to recent road tragedies in the area, including a separate incident near the Kesem interchange the previous day, where a man in his 40s died after being trapped in his vehicle during a collision between two cars. Firefighters extricated the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A 39-year-old woman injured in that accident was taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva in moderate condition.
