A police traffic stop for a suspected DUI at the Sha'ar HaGai interchange on Highway 1 escalated into a dangerous hit-and-run incident. When asked for identification, the driver accelerated, striking a police officer and then a patrol car before fleeing the scene at high speed. The officer sustained injuries to his hands and knees and was transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

The suspect's vehicle was later spotted on the Ayalon Highway, where the driver again evaded police, engaging in reckless driving, including speeding, dangerous lane changes, and driving on the shoulder, endangering other road users. The vehicle was subsequently located in Jerusalem, where the driver attempted another escape, hitting a pole before fleeing on foot.

An investigation revealed the driver, a 25-year-old resident of the village of Ni'ama in the West Bank, was in Israel illegally, had never obtained a driver's license, and the car had forged license plates. The vehicle was later found in the Ramallah area, repainted in an attempt to disguise it, and is now impounded.

Following a complex operation by the Central Unit of the Traffic Division, the suspect was apprehended in Lod while transporting another illegal Palestinian resident. During his arrest, the suspect attempted to ram police vehicles. He has been indicted on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, driving without a license or insurance, using forged plates, illegal entry into Israel, and transporting an illegal alien. His detention has been extended pending the legal proceedings.
