Israeli Religious Services Ministry Declares Kashrut Certification by Tzohar Invalid
The Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Religious Services, Yehuda Avidan, stated that the certification granted to Tzohar to issue kosher certificates holds no legal validity. In a strongly worded letter, Avidan explained that although the former Chief Rabbinate Director General, Yehuda Cohen, signed the certification, the Chief Rabbinate Council never approved the measure as required by law. After consulting with the Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Kalman Bar, it was confirmed that the council never deliberated on the matter. Consequently, Avidan emphasized that the certification is invalid and cannot be acted upon.
