Tzohar Kashrut Receives Official Certification from Chief Rabbinate of Israel
After a prolonged legal process involving the Supreme Court, the Tzohar Kashrut system has officially received approval from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel to operate as a kosher certification authority. This decision was granted today by the CEO of the Chief Rabbinate, following Tzohar's request for recognition as a kosher certification body to be evaluated fairly and according to legal standards.
Tzohar Kashrut has been active since 2018, supervising hundreds of businesses, hotels, and institutional kitchens with strict adherence to halachic rules and advanced oversight mechanisms. These include formal employment of supervisors, separation between the business and the supervisor, and full transparency with the public. Following the approval, Tzohar has issued updated kosher certificates to most of the businesses under its supervision, now including the word "kosher."
Rabbi Emmanuel Gadag, CEO of Tzohar Kashrut, described the approval as a historic step toward strengthening a professional, state-supervised kosher system that operates responsibly and transparently. He emphasized the importance of this recognition for expanding kosher certification options and increasing public trust in kosher supervision in Israel. Gadag also expressed hope that this licensing would highlight to lawmakers the significance of dedicated kosher organizations that pay their supervisors and inspectors and work to enhance kosher standards nationwide.
