Israeli midfielder Oskar Gloch continues to be a subject of discussion in the Netherlands. Despite scoring six goals and providing six assists in 19 appearances for Ajax this season, the Israeli player faces ongoing criticism regarding his performance. However, a recent analysis published in the local media highlights a discrepancy between the criticism and Gloch's significant contributions to the Amsterdam club.
Analyst Dylan Vlack noted that Gloch has not fully convinced everyone since joining Ajax, citing a lack of physical strength in his debut season. Vlack also mentioned that even among Ajax fans, opinions are divided, with Gloch often being criticized for holding onto the ball too long, not noticing teammates, or needing improvement in his finishing, despite creating many dangerous situations.
Despite these criticisms, Gloch's statistics demonstrate a substantial impact on Ajax. The Israeli player, who recorded nine goals and six assists last season, is nearing those numbers again this season, even with changes in his role. While he started the season as a regular starter under coach Michel, the arrival of Julian Brandt and the development of Abdallah Ouazane have led to him not always starting and also playing on the left wing.
Advanced data further strengthens Gloch's importance. According to the analysis, "Soccerexports" data ranks Gloch first among wingers in the Dutch league for overall performance this season. Another model shows Gloch with a current ability score of 65.5 and a potential score of 74.0, with only four other Ajax midfielders and forwards rated higher in current ability.
The analysis concludes that Gloch's value to Ajax is evident not only in traditional statistics but also in advanced metrics, emphasizing the importance of the 22-year-old Israeli. The writer suggests that despite the criticism, Gloch is indeed "worth gold" to Ajax.
