Iran is reportedly in talks with Russia to acquire advanced S-400 air defense systems, according to a report by the British newspaper The Telegraph. Tehran is optimistic about the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin approving the deal, which Iran has sought for years to bolster its defensive capabilities.
According to an Iranian official cited by the newspaper, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei sent Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, to the Kremlin on November 5th carrying a personal message. The primary request in this message was for Russia to supply Iran with its advanced air defense systems.
The report suggests that Iran's renewed push for the S-400 systems is a key element of its defense strategy, particularly following what the article describes as American and Israeli strikes that destroyed Iran's existing air defense systems. The ongoing discussions highlight Iran's efforts to enhance its military readiness.
