The Israeli national handball team is set to play a challenging away game against Slovenia on Saturday at 6:30 PM, as part of the European Championship qualifiers. This follows a disappointing loss to the Czech Republic, where Israel missed a crucial opportunity to secure a draw after losing possession with the ball in their final attack, despite having a two-player advantage.

Despite the previous setback, the team remains in contention for qualification. Slovenia, however, presents a formidable opponent, having finished eighth in the last European Championship and boasting three players among the top 20 scorers. They recently secured a decisive 38-28 victory over Bosnia. Unlike Israel, which endured a long bus journey from the Czech Republic, Slovenia's travel was minimal, moving only from Koper to Celje.

Coach David Pisonero acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming match, calling it potentially the toughest in their group and admitting it's their lowest chance for a good result. Nevertheless, he expressed enthusiasm and a strong desire to compete, especially after the missed point against the Czechs. "We are aware that against an excellent team like them the task is very complex, but we come with a lot of ambition and hope, striving to compete with them and utilize the moments when we show quality," Pisonero stated.

Player Yoav Lumbroso, who scored 10 goals against the Czech Republic, echoed the sentiment of moving past the previous game. "We don't have too much time to cry over the point we lost. A significant challenge awaits us against one of the best teams in the world, and we want to show progress from game to game. If an opportunity arises to gain points there too, we will have to know how to seize it," he said.

The other match in their group, between Bosnia and the Czech Republic, is scheduled for Sunday.
