Portland Trail Blazers player Deni Avdija has been lauded by NBA commentators for a viral play during the team's recent 108-106 victory over the Phoenix Suns. The win improved the Trail Blazers' season record to 6-1.
During the third quarter of the game, Avdija, pointing at Suns star Devin Booker, signaled to teammate Damian Lillard that he wanted the ball for a fast break. "He pointed at him," said Locked On Blazers commentator Mike Richman. "He looked for the 'little guy' and chose to run him over. Lillard passed him the ball, and Avdija finished near the rim."
Commentators on ESPN's podcast also praised Avdija's performance. "Deni Avdija continues from where he left off when he was selected for the All-Star game," said Brian Windhorst. "He knows how to get into the paint. God, he's a wrecking ball." Tim McMahon added, "Avdija is the giant guard. He creates with the ball in his hand. He's really good at creating off the dribble. He gets into the paint with a drive. You don't want to take an offensive foul on this guy."
