The State Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against 28-year-old Ali Masswada for the intentional murder of his wife, Yunit Masswada, under aggravating circumstances. The indictment alleges that Masswada stabbed his wife to death in their Haifa apartment while their infant son was present. Following the murder, he allegedly attempted to cover up evidence by washing blood from the body.

According to the indictment, the couple's relationship had been strained in the period leading up to the murder, partly due to friction between the deceased and Masswada's family. After the birth of their son, the defendant reportedly began suspecting his wife of infidelity and of planning to leave him.

During the night of September 24-25, while the couple and their infant son were in the apartment, Masswada allegedly attacked his wife. After deciding to kill her, he took a knife from the kitchen and forcefully stabbed her in the neck, severing her windpipe and major blood vessels, causing massive bleeding.

The indictment further claims that Masswada then took his wife to the shower, washed the blood from her body and his own, in an attempt to conceal evidence. He then carried her out of the apartment and called the emergency services. Police who arrived found the victim in the stairwell without a pulse and began resuscitation efforts, which Masswada also joined. The infant son remained in his crib in the apartment throughout the incident. The woman was taken to Rambam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

In addition to the murder charge, Masswada is also accused of obstruction of justice. Prosecutors argued in their detention request that the defendant did not provide full details of the incident to emergency services or the police, and that his actions after the murder, including washing the body and his own, demonstrate cold-bloodedness and dangerousness, raising concerns about further obstruction of justice.
