Deni Avdija led the Portland Trail Blazers to a decisive 132-119 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, propelling the team to the top of the Western Conference standings with a surprising 6-1 record. Following the impressive performance, American media outlets lauded Avdija's contributions, with some fan pages even ranking him among the NBA's top 10 players this season. One fan page stated, "I don't care if it's a little wild, but Deni Avdija is a top 10 player in the NBA this season. He makes the game look so easy."
Avdija narrowly missed a triple-double, recording 21 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds. He was named Player of the Game by Blazer's Edge, which highlighted his physical dominance, particularly during several confrontations with Phoenix player Dillon Brooks. The publication noted Avdija's aggressive play against the Suns' defense throughout the evening, consistently making the right decisions with the ball and notably outplaying Brooks, who typically dishes out more punishment than he receives.
Despite the accolades, Avdija remained grounded, emphasizing teamwork. "We played together, we shared the ball. Everyone got their share today and everyone came to play," he said. "Obviously, we are missing some important players, but everyone is stepping up and doing their job. We have a lot of talent in the locker room. Players need to take on bigger roles, and they are trying to fill their places, play more minutes, take care of their bodies and be ready to play. Everyone is doing a pretty good job of it, so we just need to keep it up."
