In 2025, Israeli hospitals recorded approximately 4,000 healthcare-associated infections, which develop during hospitalization or medical treatment. A new report from the Ministry of Health highlights that among general intensive care units, Shaare Zedek, Beilinson, and Sheba Medical Centers had the highest rates of bloodstream infections acquired in hospital, with 9.6, 8.9, and 8.5 cases per 1,000 patient days respectively. These infections, along with antibiotic resistance, pose a significant global health challenge, contributing to an estimated five million deaths worldwide each year.
