The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has launched a three-day amnesty program, running until November 21, allowing soldiers, both active duty and reservists, to return military equipment and weapons taken during their service without facing legal repercussions. In the first three days of the operation, which began three days ago, the IDF collected over 51,490 items. Among the returned items were approximately 28,500 rounds of ammunition, 250 grenades, 300 explosive devices, 34 firearms, and about 200 other pieces of military equipment including vests and helmets. Additionally, around 300 weapon accessories, 50 medical equipment items, and 2,000 pieces of uniforms, textiles, and footwear were returned.

Brigadier General Chai Kfir, head of the Logistics Division, stated that the IDF expected large quantities of weapons and ammunition, and indeed, many items were returned. He emphasized the safety risk posed by such items being stored in homes, noting the danger of an accidental detonation. "Nobody wants to know that their neighbor is holding a fragmentation grenade at home, which could explode and cause casualties," Kfir said. He reported that in the first three days, over 50 weapons, 45,000 rounds of ammunition, and 2,000 textile items were returned.

The operation involves approximately 65 collection points across IDF bases nationwide. The goal is to reduce the presence of unauthorized military equipment outside of military control, enhance public safety, and ensure that weapons are held only by authorized personnel. The program allows for the return of items like night vision devices, communication equipment, protective gear, ceramic plates, helmets, and medical supplies.

In a separate incident, an IDF Humvee stolen a week prior from the Juleis base in southern Israel was recovered at a packaging facility in the settlement of Ami Oz. Intelligence from Aman led investigators to the vehicle, which was located using a drone and ground searches. Suspects' identities are known and have been transferred to the Ofakim police station. The Humvee's disappearance was discovered on Monday when a similar vehicle was brought into the base's vehicle depot. An immediate search was initiated, and a lockdown was imposed on the 652nd battalion, which is responsible for maintaining heavy engineering and armored vehicles.
