Guard Yiftach Ziv made a strong debut for Maccabi Rishon LeZion on Monday, scoring 14 points and dishing out six assists in the team's victory. Ziv, who joined the team two days prior after a difficult period with Hapoel Tel Aviv where he received limited playing time, expressed his joy at being back on the court and enjoying the game again. "I really missed it. Especially enjoying, enjoying basketball," Ziv stated. "This is what I was looking for and what I wanted, and I'm happy for myself first of all that I enjoyed it, and of course that we won."
Ziv highlighted the welcoming atmosphere within the team, noting the help he received from teammates like Idan Zalmanson, Justin Tillman, and his familiarity with coach Guy Kaplan. "There are amazing guys here, from the foreigners to the Israelis. Amazing guys," he said. "It's fun when they suddenly sing your name, I'm happy for them, the most important thing for me is to win and enjoy for the soul."
Coach Guy Kaplan praised Ziv's immediate impact, stating, "He came hungry, we will need him to succeed." Kaplan also commented on the team's performance, "We came with good spirit, we felt comfortable and relatively executed. When we didn't, we knew how to correct on the move. Happy about the spirit, about Yiftach getting into things and also about us connecting. When you win it's great." He added that the team is working on defense, intensity, positioning, and coverages, and is continuously learning.
Kaplan acknowledged Ziv's experience and familiarity with the team, noting that despite only two practices, Ziv integrated smoothly. The coach expressed hope for more consistent and better basketball from the team moving forward.
