Former Israeli Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General Edna Arbel Dies at 82
Edna Arbel, a former Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General of Israel, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82. Born in Jerusalem in 1944, Arbel began studying law while serving in the military and was certified as a lawyer in 1969. She was appointed to the Central District Attorney's Office in 1984 and participated in the government committee investigating the 1984 Kav 300 affair.
In 1988, Arbel became a judge at the Tel Aviv District Court. She was appointed Attorney General and acting Legal Advisor to the Government in 1996. In 2004, the Judicial Selection Committee appointed her to the Supreme Court, where she served for ten years until retiring upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70 in June 2014.
Following her death, the Israeli judiciary issued a statement expressing condolences to her three daughters and family. The statement was signed by Supreme Court President Justice Yitzhak Amit, other justices, the Courts Administration Director Judge Tzachi Uziel, and members of the judicial system.
