Netanya Rabbi Amos Guetta Murdered, Suspect Arrested After Stabbing

Early Wednesday morning, police arrested a man in his 20s from Netanya suspected of murdering Rabbi Amos Guetta, aged 70. The suspect, reportedly a student of the rabbi, allegedly stabbed him at least four times following a dispute that erupted when the student wanted to pray with the rabbi. The stabbing occurred around 5:40 a.m., and detectives from the Netanya station and the Sharon district's juvenile unit quickly apprehended the suspect.

Amir Cohen, commander of the Central District, visited the crime scene, expressed deep shock over the incident, and assigned the investigation to the Sharon juvenile unit. Authorities are preparing security measures for the rabbi's funeral procession, which is expected to draw thousands of mourners.

Netanya Mayor Avi Salama mourned Rabbi Guetta, describing him as a great scholar and a pillar of Torah and kindness in the city. Salama highlighted the rabbi's decades-long impact on tens of thousands of residents, offering guidance, blessings, and support to families locally and worldwide. He extended heartfelt condolences to the rabbi's wife, children, family, and students, praying for his soul's peace.
