Rabbi Amos Guetta, Renowned Spiritual Leader in Netanya, Murdered by Student
Rabbi Amos Guetta, a prominent spiritual leader and Kabbalah teacher in Netanya, was tragically murdered this morning by one of his students. Born in Libya in 1951, he immigrated to Israel as a child and grew up in Netanya, where he became a well-known figure in Torah study and community leadership. Initially working as a postal worker and studying medicine, he ultimately devoted his life to Torah learning and teaching.
Rabbi Guetta studied at the "Or HaTorah" kolel and under several rabbis, including Rabbi Shimon Gabai and Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Yitzhaki. He later founded a yeshiva and study hall named after Rabbi Yitzhak Chai Taib, where he taught halacha, ethics, weekly Torah portions, and Kabbalah to many students, attracting visitors from across Israel. His study hall became a central hub for spiritual learning.
Beyond his religious teachings, Rabbi Guetta was active in community guidance and public affairs, offering advice and lectures to diverse audiences. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he temporarily relocated with students to Tiberias to continue their studies and prayers. He is survived by two sons and two daughters. His family and students recall his resilience after the tragic death of his younger son in a car accident shortly after his bar mitzvah.
The news of Rabbi Guetta's death has shocked his family, students, and the wider Netanya community. He was regarded as a significant spiritual figure whose influence extended well beyond his study hall, impacting thousands over decades of dedicated service.
