Fiverr, the Israeli freelance marketplace, has seen a significant decline in user numbers and revenue, dropping by approximately 25%. The company attributes this downturn to the increasing impact of artificial intelligence, which is reducing the demand for certain freelance services and affecting traffic from Google searches. Fiverr acknowledged that this contraction is happening faster than their transition to offering more complex services.
Founded 16 and a half years ago, Fiverr's initial promise was to break down geographical barriers in the service industry, similar to how online shopping had revolutionized the trade of physical goods. The platform aimed to connect consumers worldwide with service providers for tasks like graphic design, copywriting, and video editing, regardless of their location.
