Holiday Praises Avdija's Unique Contribution to Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers, with Israeli player Danny Avdija, have surprised the NBA by achieving a perfect 3-0 start to the season after a 136-129 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. This win followed previous successes against Phoenix and Sacramento, with the team demonstrating impressive offensive performance and clutch play against a strong Lakers lineup.

Sports Illustrated highlighted the developing chemistry between the team's stars, particularly a key play in the final minute. With the ball seemingly destined for Ja Morant, the Blazers opted for a different approach. Avdija, who finished the game with 23 points and 9 assists, drove to the basket, drawing two defenders, and found Damian Lillard open for the game-winning three-pointer. The publication noted Avdija's decision as the correct one, enabling Lillard's crucial shot.

Coach Mikey Neuber praised the unselfishness of his star players, stating, "They just want to win and play the right way. It's amazing what you can achieve when nobody cares who gets the credit or who takes the shot." He also revealed the constant communication among players, with them actively directing each other on offensive assignments.

Veteran player Jrue Holiday offered significant praise for Avdija in an interview with Fadeaway World. Holiday emphasized Avdija's unique contribution to the team, saying, "What he brings to our team, nobody else really brings." He encouraged Avdija to continue his aggressive play, driving to the paint and drawing fouls. Holiday also commented on his own transition to a reserve role, expressing satisfaction with his adaptability and the team's clear role definitions.

Holiday also discussed the dynamic backcourt of Lillard and Morant, noting their complementary skills. He also touched on Lillard's comeback from an Achilles tendon injury, attributing it to his work ethic and improved speed. Regarding the team's potential, Holiday adopted a cautious outlook, preferring to focus on each game individually. The Trail Blazers' strong start, their best since the 2022-23 season, has been attributed not only to results but also to the growing synergy among the players, with Avdija remaining a key contributor despite sharing the ball with star teammates.
