Israeli Supreme Court Rules State Comptroller Exceeded Authority in October 7 War Reports

The Israeli Supreme Court unanimously accepted petitions challenging the State Comptroller's activities in compiling reports on the October 7 attacks and the Iron Swords war. The court ruled that the Comptroller had acted beyond his authority in certain aspects of the audits. Specifically, the court ordered the Comptroller to cease work on four audit processes related to economic warfare against terror, Gaza policy, border defense, intelligence community operations, and government responses to Hamas's attack plans. For four additional audit processes, the Comptroller may continue but must not rely on draft reports prepared without granting full rights of defense. These rulings apply alongside other reports on the October 7 events, some of which have been published and others not, which were not part of the petitions. The audits in question covered sensitive areas including economic warfare against terror, Gaza regulation policies, border defense in the Gaza Strip, intelligence community and political echelon responses to Hamas's offensive plans, intelligence oversight, IDF transparency toward the enemy, and the conduct of political, military, and security agencies on October 7, 2023.
