Israeli Police Chief Holds Emergency Meeting to Tackle Surge in Crime and Violence

Israel Police Commissioner Major General Danni Levi is convening a special meeting on Monday evening with senior police leadership to address the recent spike in violent crime, particularly within the Arab community. The discussion aims to explore enhanced measures and capabilities to combat organized crime, focusing on the wave of assassinations involving car bombings and shootings in Arab towns.

This emergency session follows an unprecedented surge in violence over the weekend, during which six people were murdered within 12 hours across various locations including Tayibe, Jaffa, Kafr Qasim, and Holon. Among these incidents were multiple car bombings, marking the sixth or seventh such targeted killing using explosive devices in vehicles in recent months. Most of these killings are linked to criminal disputes, although one case involved a man ordering the murder of his ex-partner.

Police data reveals that since the start of 2024, 166 people have been murdered in Israel, with 143 victims from the Arab sector. The meeting will also consider cooperation with other law enforcement and security agencies to strengthen efforts against crime syndicates and reduce violent incidents.

Despite the police response, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has yet to comment on the recent bloodshed, despite his prior promises to restore order. The police leadership's meeting reflects growing concern over the escalating violence and the urgent need for a strategic crackdown.
