Israeli Police Chief Launches Aggressive Crackdown on Crime in Arab Communities
Israel Police Commissioner Major General Dany Levi convened an emergency meeting with senior police commanders on Monday in response to a surge in violence within Arab communities, which has resulted in over 140 deaths since the start of the year. The meeting followed a particularly violent 24-hour period during which six people were killed, and preceded a scheduled statutory discussion with the Minister of National Security.
Levi declared the fight against organized crime in Arab society a top national priority, emphasizing that the police will use all available means to bring criminals to justice. He instructed district commanders to adopt a proactive and offensive operational model. This includes deploying special units and Border Police platoons to friction hotspots where they had not previously operated, and expanding operational activities throughout the entire week, including weekends.
Additionally, Levi ordered a large-scale arrest campaign targeting designated crime figures nationwide, aiming to disrupt the operational capabilities of criminal organizations threatening civilian security. The strategy also focuses on dismantling the economic infrastructure of these groups and enhancing intelligence and investigative efforts.
"We will continue to strike them relentlessly and pursue them until justice is served," Levi stated. He stressed that only sustained and consistent police activity will effectively weaken crime networks and restore public confidence. Detailed data and operational plans are expected to be presented to government officials in the coming days.
