Haredi Journalist Shlomi Gil Named Political Correspondent for New Channel 16

Channel 16, owned by Ashdod real estate entrepreneur Yitzhak Hadad, officially launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi. The channel's inauguration event took place on Sunday, featuring the first broadcast of its main news edition presented by veteran anchor Yaakov Eilon.

Shlomi Gil, a Haredi journalist who served as the political correspondent for the Haredi weekly magazine Mishpacha, has been appointed as the political correspondent for Channel 16. Gil announced his new role on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude to Mishpacha for being his professional home for many years.

The channel aims to maintain a non-partisan editorial line, avoiding right or left political agendas. Ram Landes, the media professional responsible for establishing the channel, emphasized the commitment to strict separation between factual reporting and opinion, a framework in which Gil will manage political coverage.

Channel 16's programming will include culture, entertainment, documentaries, and reality shows. It is currently in a "soft launch" phase lasting three weeks before official full broadcasts begin on July 19. During this period, the channel will use an AI-based technology called SAY16, enabling viewers to provide real-time feedback that will directly influence content, programming schedules, and viewing experience.
