IDF Intelligence Warns Hamas Is Rebuilding Military Capabilities Ahead of Potential Conflict

The Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate and Southern Command have issued a warning to Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi that Hamas’s military wing is actively preparing for renewed conflict. According to a report from Kan News on June 11, Hamas is manufacturing hundreds of explosives and anti-tank missiles monthly, recruiting militants aged 18 to 22, and recently began training specialized commando units. The group is also attempting to smuggle drones and communication equipment from Sinai and is restoring underground infrastructure throughout the Gaza Strip.

Intelligence officers told the Chief of Staff that Hamas remains strong on the ground, faces no significant threats, and is unwilling to relinquish control over Gaza. This assessment was shared with U.S. officials, who reportedly prefer maintaining the current ceasefire arrangement, despite Israeli calls to resume military operations. The U.S. aims to continue pursuing the peace vision outlined by former President Donald Trump and the peace council.

Additionally, on June 10, a senior Hamas delegation led by Mousa Abu Marzouk met with Russian officials in Moscow. A Palestinian source familiar with the talks told Kan News that discussions focused on a roadmap clause concerning the disarmament and storage of weapons in Gaza. Hamas agreed in principle but demanded strict conditions: implementation would be overseen exclusively by the Palestinian National Committee for Gaza Management, international stabilization forces would coordinate directly with Palestinian factions, and guarantees would be provided that no disarmed weapons would be transferred to Israel or external parties.

This intelligence update highlights ongoing tensions in Gaza amid broader regional and international diplomatic efforts, signaling potential escalation despite current ceasefire efforts.
