IDF Warns Chief of Staff Hamas Is Reorganizing for War in Gaza
Senior intelligence and Southern Command officers in the Israel Defense Forces warned Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir last week that Hamas's military wing is actively reorganizing for renewed conflict in Gaza. According to a report by Kan 11 on Sunday, Hamas is producing hundreds of explosives and anti-tank weapons monthly, recruiting militants aged 18 to 22, recently conducting training for commando units, attempting to smuggle drones and communication devices from Sinai into Gaza, and rebuilding underground infrastructure throughout the territory.
The officers told Zamir that Hamas remains strong on the ground, faces no significant threats, and is unwilling to relinquish control over Gaza. The IDF reportedly holds the position that military action should resume in the Gaza Strip. This stance has been communicated to the United States, which opposes a return to fighting and prefers to maintain the current ceasefire arrangement while pursuing the peace vision promoted by former President Donald Trump and the peace council.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions and preparations that could lead to further escalation in the region, with Israeli military leadership emphasizing the need to address Hamas's growing capabilities and resolve.
