Former Hapoel Tel Aviv player Chris Jones delivered a dramatic game-winning basket on Tuesday, securing an 84-82 victory for his current team, Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, against his former club, ASVEL Villeurbanne. The Serbian media has lauded Jones for his clutch performance.
"He is a true star," said former coach Vladimir Djurovic, emphasizing that Jones, who played only 22 minutes, "knew exactly what he was doing" and "should play much more." Djurovic compared Jones to Partizan's P.J. Dozier, calling him "a leader."
The EuroLeague's official website also highlighted Jones's heroics, noting his ability to perform under pressure. Following the game, Jones expressed his satisfaction: "We got the defensive stop we wanted, and I was pretty sure when we came out of the timeout that if we had a chance to shoot, I would take the shot." He described the away win as "amazing" and a testament to his teammates' elevated play.
Teammate Shai Ojelay, who contributed 15 points, echoed the praise for Jones's decisive shot. "It was a huge shot by Chris," Ojelay stated. "Everyone did their part. Taking a rebound, defending, whatever was needed, and in the end, Chris brings us the win. That's his role and that's what he does best."
