Registration has opened for the 48th annual WINNER Tiberias International Marathon, set to take place on January 8, 2027, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. This event will be the first professional marathon worldwide for the year 2027 and will feature four race categories: a full marathon (42.2 km), a half-marathon (21.1 km), a 10 km race, and a 5 km race. All four races will commence from Guy Beach.

The full marathon and half-marathon will start at 7:00 AM. The full marathon course will trace the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, passing through Kibbutz Kinneret, Degania, and the Tzemach Junction, continuing along the southern and eastern shores towards Ein Gev, and returning along the same route to the finish line at Guy Beach Hotel. The full marathon will also serve as the Israeli Marathon Championship, crowning the national champions for 2027.

Considered one of the fastest marathon courses in Israel and globally, the Tiberias route is known for enabling participants to aim for personal bests and national records. The marathon's return follows a period of complexity in northern Israel, aiming to encourage residents, visitors, and tourists back to the region. Holding the Israeli Championship and the world's first marathon of the year in the North is seen as a message of resilience and renewal.

Tiberias Mayor Yossi Ben-Neh stated, "The 48th Tiberias Marathon is much more than a traditional international sports event, this year it is also a clear symbol of the strength, resilience, and revival of Tiberias and the entire North after three years of war. Opening the marathon season worldwide precisely here, in Tiberias and around our magical Sea of Galilee, is a clear statement that life, sports, and tourism are returning to the North with full force. Tiberias opens its gates and its heart to thousands of runners, their families, and visitors from all over the country and the world. I invite everyone to come, run through our breathtaking landscapes, feel the special energy of the city, and take part in an event that is a true celebration of sport, culture, and community."
