Rabbi Yigal Cohen has called on the public to honor the memory of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the late Sephardic spiritual leader, by following his example. Speaking in the week of Rabbi Yosef's yahrzeit (anniversary of passing), Rabbi Cohen emphasized that Rabbi Yosef was a powerful advocate in heaven due to his many good deeds in Israel. To have him as a "good intercessor," Cohen urged, people must emulate his compassion for every Jew and his love for the Jewish people. He described Rabbi Yosef as having a large, loving heart, deeply concerned with the problems of every individual. Rabbi Cohen encouraged listeners to help, support, and strengthen fellow Jews through mitzvot (commandments), charity, and sharing positive content, mirroring Rabbi Yosef's lifelong mission to connect Jews to God. He also suggested reciting a chapter of Psalms and lighting a candle in memory of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, son of Gorgia, believing these actions would lead to his prayers for their well-being and that of all Israel.
