Maccabi Tel Aviv to Sign Foreign Striker After Nwankali Injury Setback
Maccabi Tel Aviv plans to bring in a foreign striker this summer after not signing one in the January transfer window. The move comes because the club now expects Ion Nicolaescu will not be ready for full action before November, making it hard to wait for his return.
Club officials believe Nicolaescu needs several more months before he can play again. The team wants an extra attacking option to help its Israeli forwards lead the side toward a European competition berth.
Maccabi also has another long-term absentee, Dani Grper, who has recovered from an ACL tear but is also expected back only in November. His rehabilitation will take even longer than Nicolaescu's because he tore the same ligament in the same knee for a second time.
For now, Maccabi has left-back cover as long as Roy Revivo is not sold. But if Revivo is transferred, as he wants, the club will need a solution this summer because Grper was supposed to replace him.
