Former Maccabi Tel Aviv guard Lonnie Walker is reportedly nearing a return to Europe, with Turkish club Besiktas emerging as the leading candidate to sign him. The interest from Besiktas predates Walker's release from the NBA's Denver Nuggets, and the team may now seize the opportunity to acquire him. Two other European clubs are also reportedly interested in Walker's services.
Walker was released by the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, concluding his brief attempt to secure a spot in the NBA after leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer. During the preseason, Walker struggled to earn significant playing time, recording minimal points in limited minutes across a few games and not participating in the final preseason matchup against Chicago.
Besiktas already boasts four former Maccabi Tel Aviv players on its roster: Scottie Wilbekin, Jalen Adams, Ante Žižić, and Jaron Blossomgame. Walker's potential move to Besiktas would reunite him with several familiar faces from his time in Tel Aviv.
Prior to his release from Denver, Walker began working with prominent agent Miško Ražnatović, known for his extensive connections within European basketball. This move, coupled with his departure from the Nuggets, makes a return to the European basketball scene a tangible possibility for the American guard.
