Israeli football club Bnei Sakhnin will host a memorial match for club legend Lior Assulin, who was killed on October 7. The game, to be held at Doha Stadium, will feature his family and friends in attendance.
Assulin played only one season with Bnei Sakhnin but is remembered for scoring two goals in the State Cup final against Hapoel Ramat Gan, securing the club's sole cup title. This victory placed Sakhnin on the Israeli football map, leading to European competition and international recognition as a representative of the Arab sector in the top league.
His family had previously expressed frustration over the club's lack of commemoration. The planned match will pit the historic cup-winning team against a selection of veteran Israeli players. The legendary team was coached by Eyal Lachman, captained by Abbas Suan, and featured Assulin alongside Brazilian striker Gabriel Lima, a duo known as "Assulima."
The match will be broadcast live on the Sports Channel, with many Bnei Sakhnin fans supporting the initiative to honor their former star.
