Shino Zuarz is the sole candidate for the upcoming four-year term as Chairman of the Football Association, the organization announced Monday. Former Knesset Member Issawi Freige challenged Zuarz but failed to secure the required level of support, disqualifying his candidacy from proceeding. Official protocols released by the association show Zuarz garnered 1,070 votes out of a possible 1,277, approximately 83.7% of the total. Freige received only 94 votes, or about 7.3%.
The association's bylaws mandate that candidates must demonstrate support from clubs holding at least 10% of the voting rights. Freige did not meet this threshold. The Football Association clarified that support letters from both candidates were reviewed, with invalid, duplicate, or canceled letters being disqualified. Following this review, only Zuarz's candidacy will advance to the committee vetting candidates for the chairmanship.
Zuarz, who enjoys the backing of various centers and clubs, is expected to continue in his role for another term, as had been anticipated.
