Vance Says U.S. and Iran Will Set Up Direct Military Channel in Qatar

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Monday evening that Washington and Tehran have agreed to create a direct military communication mechanism in Qatar. According to Vance, the channel will connect an officer from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with an officer from U.S. Central Command.

He made the remarks in an interview titled "The New U.S. Relations with Iran." Vance said, "We agreed with the Iranians that an IRGC officer and a U.S. Central Command officer will sit together in Qatar. This is how we will settle many of our disputes."

Vance also said that other Gulf states are holding talks with Iran. He singled out the United Arab Emirates, which he described as "the most pro-Israel country in the Gulf," saying it is conducting talks with Iran on an unprecedented scale, including with the Revolutionary Guards.

The comments suggest a new military deconfliction channel and wider regional contacts with Tehran, though Vance gave no further details on when the mechanism will begin operating.
