The Knesset Committee, chaired by coalition whip Ofir Katz, is set to convene next week for a marathon of discussions aimed at advancing the Basic Law on Torah Study. The move is part of the deal between the Haredi parties and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was reported by ynet.
The wider Haredi legislative package remains uncertain. In addition to the Torah study bill, the Haredi parties are demanding two other measures, a law to freeze arrests and a kosher supervision bill.
Time is running out in the current Knesset session. Only 15 parliamentary days remain before the final dissolution deadline on July 17, putting pressure on the coalition to move the legislation quickly.
