Israeli judoka Raz Hershko, currently ranked world number 1, will compete for the bronze medal at the European Judo Championships on Saturday. Hershko, 28, lost in the semifinals of the over 78kg category to South Korea's Hyon-ji Lee, who is ranked fourth in the world. Hershko's opponent for the bronze medal match will be Croatia's Helena Vukovic.

Earlier in the competition, Hershko secured victories against Taipei's Ling Fang Chang by ippon and Estonia's Emma-Maliis Ots, ranked 12th globally, by waza-ari in golden score. In the quarterfinals, Hershko defeated Brazil's Beatriz Souza, whom she had previously lost to in the 2024 Paris Olympic final. Souza, ranked 20th in the world and a silver medalist at the 2022 World Championships, was penalized three times, leading to her defeat.

Hershko's semifinal loss came after just 48 seconds by ippon. Hershko is the silver medalist from the Paris Olympics and the reigning European champion from April. She has also won gold medals at the Grand Slam in Budapest last month and the Grand Slam in Tbilisi earlier this year.
